Window in Sintra Portugal
Sometime my wife has a better eye for great photo opportunities than I do. She always says my pictures must turn out better because I have a ‘big fancy camera’ but I don’t think that is true. I think that 80% of a photograph is in the photographers ability to visualize and frame a good shot, the remaining 20% can be attributed to technical knowledge or the ‘quality’ of a camera.
This window is a good example, she spotted it, not me. I have to thank her because the photographs came out really nice.
That leads to a great line my wife over-heard in a resturant we ate in while traveling. At the time we had just finished up our normal 1 hour magic hour photography session. The best time to shoot is often times 5 minutes before and 5 minutes after sunset. Anyway, we had finished and walked in a nice resturant. I had a normal 10 kilos of camera gear and a tripod strapped to my back.
As I weaved through the tables a woman with a obiously british accent burted out loudly to her elderly dinner partner, “My he has an erormous tripod, he must be a serious photographer.”
The funny part is I didn’t hear it at the time, my wife had to retell the tale after she stopped laughing. I have a feeling this is going to become some sort of running joke around here.
And to confess I do have an enormus tripod. Its a Bogen 3021 with a 3030 pan and tilt head to be exact. But on that day I was carring my much much smaller Manfrotto 190XCPROB with NN5 and RD16 rotator.
Somehow, sometimes I feel like I get a bit carried away with this stuff.
