About

Swissmerica is an American expat turned Swiss cultural expert.  Over the last 3 plus years has successfulfy attempted, but miserably failed to learn the local language.  Although he is a totales disaster mit Schwiizertüütsch (Swiss German) , his extensive knowledge of the more obscure points of Swiss culture make him an excellent guy to ask about something to do over the weekend.

The Twissted Swisster blog was established with the first post in 2006 as a project to document the move of an American to a small Swiss town on the outskirts of Zurich.  The objective was to document everyday events, frustrations, and major milestones in world of expat living.

To those that are going through the same things he did, hang in there.  To those that are contemplating a move, this blog may help you to jump right in, or run with fear.

-Enjoy

I must thank you for your candid, open experience captured consistently over the last three years. I have just been presented with an international assignment to the Geneva area and must make a decision by end of April for a Sept 1 start. Your candor helps me to see that I could survive and enjoy the whole experience. I am now inspired to use a blog as well to remain close to my family and friends as well as have a digital history of my time in Switzerland. All the best, Sara

My BF works for ABB and we’re moving to Zurich – maybe Baden- by Nov – I’m feeling quite overwhelmed but your blog has lightened my spirits ;) I hope I don;t need to learn German! Though I will make the effort

Sue, thanks for stopping by, I’m sure you’ll have a great time. But you better think twice about your fear of German. Even a little bit will go a long way. I suggest at minimum taking 1 beginners course. It will make life so much easier. -Swissmerica

Found your blog not long ago via the Swissinfo writeon blog and really enjoy reading it. So much so that I’ve added a link to it from mine to share it with my readers too. Merry Christmas!

    Hi there!

I’ve been following your blog for some time. It is brilliant!!

For the past few days, friends and I have been putting together a site with useful info aimed at Americans in Switzerland. The idea came up when a few other fellow Americans (and one Swiss) and I went out for drinks We’ve since written articles and look to compile lots of info so that we can feel more at home here in this wonderful country (more articles to be posted next week). The articles can be found at http://www.expatsinswitzerland.com/

Also, there’s a blog section where we will be blogging about our experience in adjusting to the Swiss life style – and of course to digest all the beauty we are experiencing here. If you’re interested in starting a blog, please hit me up. We’re looking to have a few more regular bloggers.

Would you mind linking to our site? Also, any input/comments are highly welcomed!

    Have a great Sunday!

    Chris

I feel so lucky to find this blog. I am a swiss american dual citizen. I have visited many times and still harbor a desire to live there permanently. I am still raising a family and am approaching retirement age so prospects of that happening are slim.Number 6 of 7 kids, swissgerman was never passed on to me. I studied a little german and pick up a little when I visit. Maybe I can live vicariously through your experierences. Thanks.
