Costelo Novo, Portugal's Schist Villages
Costelo Novo is a small rural village in central Portugal. A recent goverment sponsored development project to rebuild and restore many of the area's 'Schist Villages' has given the town an opportunity to restore previously neglected buildings. While the tourist industry is still taking route in this area, the towns are well removed from the standard tourist destinations and give you a good sense of traditional portugese life.
